The 1st picture of our 1st phage
I feel that the field of bacterial viruses is a fine playground for serious children who ask ambitious questions.
Call for students
Our lab is seeking for students in all levels for basic, applicable and bioinformatics exciting projects involved in development of new anti-microbial treatments.
If you are very curious person or a fan of lab work or a computer wizard or someone who want to contribute to the development of new drugs for the benefit of humanity, and above all you are a team player, we want you!
Important!
Dr. Ronen Hazan
PI
I am a microbiologist who loves and is interested in microbiology and many other scientific areas.
I also like to: Mountains bike, hike, ski, computers (yes, I can enjoy them) and.. ah yes, beer.

Leron Khalifa
PhD student
Research: My research involves isolating phages against pathogenic bacteria with a goal of establishing phage therapy at the bench level and taking it beyond. Methodology not only involves individual phage treatment but also use of phage cocktails. I am also interested in mechanisms involved in resistance of bacteria against ourphages and ways to overcome them.
I also like to: eat and cook different cuisines, party and dance my feet off to Bollywood music.
Motto: "Shoot for the moon; even if you miss, you will land among the stars"
Mor Shlezinger (DMD)
PhD student
Research: My research focuses on using phage therapy against Enteroccocus faecalis, a hard-to-target pathogen from root canal infections. I am working both in vitro and in vivo with an animal model. I hope that my research will lay the base for translation research and possible application to clinical practice, thus promoting better treatment for patients.
I also like to: In my free time I love to go hiking. I am also an artist and especially enjoy drawing. I am also interested in botanics and act as a dedicated gardener.
Moto: "The journey is the destination"
Daniel Gelman
Previous MD / MA (Tzameret) student and current Honorable Member Of the Lab
Research: I am conducting a study on beer yeast and on bacteriophages for bacteria involved both in food spoilage and in pathologic conditions. I am also very interested in the human microbiome and in new ways to understand and engineer it.
I also like to: travel, practice sports and read books.
Moto: "It’s the possibility of having a dream come true that makes life interesting" (Paulo Coelho)
Sivan Alkalay
PhD student
Study in "Pirhaey mehkar" (פרחי מחקר), the direct program to PhD of the Hebrew University medical School.
Research: I am looking into interactions of phages and hosts
I also like to: I am an animal lover who likes hiking, rock climbing and any outdoor activity
Moto: " I am working on it"
Mohanad Abd AL Rahman
MA student
Research: XDR Pseudomonas aeruginosa
I also like to: Read, walk around in the wild and sometimes to cook
Moto: "In order to succeed, we must first believe that we can"
Karen Adler
MA student
Research: My research focuses on isolating and characterizing phages for the infectious bacterium Pseudomonas aeruginosa, specifically aiming to target phages at individual strains so as to create a form of personalized treatment.
I also like to: cook, fix things, and read.

“...on opening the incubator I experienced one of those rare moments of intense emotion which reward the research worker for all his pains: at first glance I saw that the broth culture, which the night before had been very turbid was perfectly clear: all the bacteria had vanished... as for my agar spread it was devoid of all growth and what caused my emotion was that in a flash I understood: what causes my spots was in fact an invisible microbe, a filterable virus, but a virus parasitic on bacteria. Another thought came to me also, If this is true, the same thing will have probably occurred in the sick man. In his intestine, as in my test-tube, the dysentery bacilli will have dissolved away under the action of their parasite. He should now be cured.”
